Moving out of an apartment

Notify your neighbors in time
A move often causes extra traffic, noise, and use of the elevator or entrance hall. Therefore, inform your neighbors a few days in advance. A short note in the entrance hall or a friendly word to direct neighbors is always appreciated.
Inquire with the Property Manager or building manager
Every apartment building has its own house rules. Inquire beforehand if there are agreements regarding:
- the use of the elevator during a move;
- the permitted hours for moving work;
- protecting the elevator, entrance hall, and hallways;
- the use of common areas.

Reserve the elevator if necessary
In some buildings, the elevator must be reserved in advance or a freight elevator may be used. Sometimes the Property Manager also asks to place protective panels to prevent damage. Check this in time.
Apply for a parking ban
Will the moving truck be parked in front of the building? Then it may be necessary to apply for a temporary parking ban with the municipality. Do this well in advance so that the necessary traffic signs can be placed in time and the moving truck can park safely.
Protect the common areas
During a move, walls, doors, floors, and elevators can easily be damaged. Use protective material if necessary and be careful when moving large furniture.
Keep passages clear
Ensure that hallways, stairwells, and emergency exits always remain accessible. Never place moving boxes or furniture in the common areas for long periods.
Check the property
Before you hand over the keys:
- take all personal belongings with you;
- clean the property thoroughly;
- record the meter readings for gas, electricity, and water;
- check if all keys, badges, and remote controls are present.
Also remember your change of address
Don't forget to update your address in time with the municipality and important institutions, such as:
- banks;
- insurance;
- employer;
- school;
- health insurance fund;
- energy supplier;
- internet and telecom provider.
This way, you prevent important mail from getting lost.
